OSCE Office Holds Conference in Armenia on Role of Media in Combating
Corruption

The role of the media in the fight against all forms of corruption was the focus
of a conference organized by the OSCE Office in Yerevan. The two-day event, held
over the weekend in Tsakhkadzor, brought together more than 30 journalists.

the fact that people have a right of access to information held by governments
and public bodies about the activities and decisions that affect their lives.
Throughout the world, more than 50 countries have enacted access to information
legislation which opens government records to public scrutiny.

Parliament Majority Divided Over Key Election Law Changes

The pro-presidential factions making up the parliament majority on Wednesday
wrapped up debates on their promised reform of Armenia’s electoral legislation,
failing to reach agreement on the two most important amendments.

Armenian Citizens Are Against Sending Soldiers to Iraq

”Vox Populi” Center for Study of the Public Opinion has conducted a telephone
survey on detaching 50 doctors and sappers to Iraq. The survey was held on
September 25-29, 2004, among 664 Yerevan residents of 18 and above.
60% of those surveyed has opposed the idea, 24% doesn’t care, 10% is at a loss
to answer and only 6% is for. By the way, 22% of the surveyed persons think
Parliament will vote for sending an Armenian group to Iraq.

Protector of Human Rights in Karabakh

The chairman of the parliament committee of foreign relations and information
Vahram Atanessian undertook the bill "On the protector of human rights" which
was included in the schedule of the ninth session of the NKR National Assembly.
The bill may be discussed in October.
