The Homeless of Yerevan As Seen By Photo and TV Cameras

On January 27 at “Narekatsi” Arts Institute an action “The Right to Life” was
held. The exhibition of works by photographer Onik Grigorian that opened there
and the first night of “Nameless Tombs” documentary spoke about the homeless of
Yerevan. The documentary was produced jointly by “Yerkir-Media” TV company and
“Investigative Journalists” NGO. After the demonstration of the film the
representatives of media and NGOs discussed the problems of people that found
themselves in the street. Within the action the book by Onik Grigorian “Armenia:
Poverty, Transition and Democracy” was presented, too. The book is published by
Gomidas Institute (based in Princeton and London).

Arrested Leader of Armenian Aryans Goes On Hunger Strike

The recently arrested leader of the Armenian-Aryan Order party Armen Avetissyan
has gone on hunger strike.
The reason is that Avetissyan has been placed in the same cell with criminals
who used violence against him. Avetissyan's lawyer Melania Arustamyan and an
ombudsman representative are now in the cell to inquire into the situation.
Thursday MPs Viktor Dallakyan and Manuk Gasparyan asked Yerevan's Prosecutor
Hrach Badalyan to change the measure of restriction against Avetissyan.

Ombudsman Calls For Release Of Prominent Anti-Semite

State prosecutors were expected to consider on Monday requests from Armenia’s
human rights ombudsman, Larisa Alaverdian, and two opposition parliamentarians
to release an ultranationalist politician prosecuted for his virulently
anti-Semitic discourse.
