The Institute of Democracy and European Integration NGO formed several months
ago came to a rather interesting conclusion as regards the constitutional
referendum campaign.
The organization members are convinced that the “referendum offers the
possibility to deepen the public consent in the principal directions and fix
serious constitutional guarantees for securing their irreversibility.”

No Political Will to Combat Corruption

“There is no political will to combat corruption in Armenia”, announced the head
of the organization “Transparency International” Amalya Kostanyan in the
National Press Club.
In this atmosphere of the absence of political will she considers it useless to
speak about the combat of corruption in separate spheres. She also criticized
the anti-corruption strategy in which, according to her, there is no
anti-corruption law, but only a plan of events.

OSCE Investigating Human Rights in Armenia

On November 7 RA Ombudsman Larissa Alaverdyan met the head of the
Democratization administration of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions
and Human Rights Vladimir Shkolnikov.
Referring to the issues about the Institution Mrs. Alaverdyan mentioned about
the law level of awareness of the population about human rights especially in
rural places, and the absence of the regional representatives of the Ombudsman.

European Court to Hear the Case of Violating Human Rights in Armenia

The European Court of Human Rights will soon hear a case of restricting the free
transportation of the RA citizen. A decision has been made lately to fix the day
for the hearing of the case of the RA citizen, member of the «National
Renaissance» party Armen Mkrtchyan. The board members have already been
appointed.

False Charges?: Documents Suggest Buzand Street Attorney’s Arrest Was
Unwarranted

Counsel for jailed attorney Vahe Grigoryan have released documents that give
grounds to accusations that Grigoryan’s arrest was fabricated by authorities who
want to silence the attorney’s representation of Buzand Street clients in their
effort to resist eviction.

OSCE Observers have not been invited in Armenia

OSCE observers will not participate as observers on the November 27
Constitutional Referendum in Armenia. The reason is that Armenian authorities
didn't send an invitation to them.
