Two Laws To Eliminate Freedom And Independence

Tomorrow the NA special session will discuss two draft laws regulating the Mass
Media field which have been processed without the participation of the concerned
sides. Neither are the workers of the field aware of the content of the laws.


According to specialists, there are a number of provisions in the drafts about
«Amendments to the RA Law on Television and Radio and Amendments to the RA
Regulations of the National Commission on Television and Radio» which contradict
the RA Constitution jeopardizing freedom of speech. RA NA deputy, author of the
present Law on Television and Radio Shavarsh Kocharyan has also mentioned about

The nationwide survey, entitled Armenia National Voter Study, was commissioned
by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and conducted in August
by the International Republican Institute, the Gallup Organization and the
Armenian Sociological Association.

It found that 62 percent of Armenians think their country is on the wrong track,
while 31 percent hold to the opposite opinion. And, significantly, while twice
as many think the country needs change as those who are satisfied, only 15
percent seem to indicate confidence that change can take place through fair
elections...

Armenia Marks Independence Day With Military Parade

Armenia put on the biggest show of its military might in seven years Thursday as
it marked the 15th anniversary of its declaration of independence from the
Soviet Union and received congratulations from U.S. President George W. Bush and
other world leaders.

Hundreds of soldiers, military vehicles, towed artillery systems and other
pieces of hardware paraded past the country’s leaders standing on a podium
erected in Yerevan’s main square for the occasion. Thousands of ordinary people
were also present at the procession that was broadcast live by the main Armenian
television stations...
