Mass-Media Condition in Armenia Getting Worse

“Reporters without borders” organization published the Worldwide Press Freedom Index 2005 today, according to which Armenia takes 102 position of 167 possible.

This year Armenia fell 19 points behind as compared with the last year, when RA held the 83 position. This year’s list Armenia is followed by such countries as Gabon and Guinea.

Due to freedom level Armenian reporters must «kindly envy» their collegues working in Zambia, Cambodia or Congo. In the above-mentioned countries the freedom of media is higher than in RA.

By the way Armenia yields to Georgia and Turkey as well which take the 99th and 98th positions correspondingly Azerbaijan takes 141st and U.S. only 44th positions.

According to the published list reporters are acting very freely in Denmark, Finland, other Scandinavian countries. The list is concluded with Turkmenistan, Iran and North Korea.
