The freedom fighter Taron Hakobyan, who lived at the Sasun inn near the village of Oojan without the right to run a business set the inn to fire, and has been detained for three days now. In the time of committing this act the freedom fighter was in a difficult and tense psychological state but he is not insane. He was provoked to do so. This story has a long prehistory.

Taron Hakobyan, the freedom fighter from Oojan is the victim, the Sasun inn he occupies is the target. Taron Hakobyan has documents which allow him to live in the inn on one of the hills near the village of Oojan but he does not have the right to run a business. However, the inn and 2000 square meters of land near the inn are a tit bit and have attracted Vardges Hakobyan, who is a member of the ARF Dashnaktsutyun. Taron Hakobyan’s friends say in 2002 the Dashnak governor of the region of Aragatsotn Hrair Karapetyan arranged documents by which Vardges is the owner of both the inn and the land. The same people say Hrair Karapetyan is also interested in this deal. Taron Hakobyan appealed to the office of the public prosecutor. It is difficult to tell whether the tacit confrontation between the ARF Dashnaktsutyun and Prosecutor General Aghvan Hovsepyan affected the decision of the prosecutor of the region of Aragatsotn Hamlet Zakoyan, however, Zakoyan brought charges, involving the head of the regional branch of the real estate cadastre as well.

The ARF Dashnaktsutyun, worried by charges, decided to take pro-active actions. First, the Court of Cassation decided the case in favor of the Dashnak, and on July 14, 2006 a large group of policemen of Ashtarak visited the inn to evict Taron Hakobyan and his family. Taron Hakobyan’s friends and brothers came to help. By the way, Taron Hakobyan has four brothers, three are freedom fighters. In July the family was not evicted, there was a fight involving 20 friends and relatives of the freedom fighter and 100 officers of the police. No more able to resist pressure, Taron Hakobyan took this step. Taron Hakobyan’s supporters say the chief of the police of Ashtarak also participated in capturing the inn.

By the way, Taron Hakobyan is a friend of another freedom fighter Vardan Malkhasyan, who was arrested two months on a charge of appeals against the constitutional order. In the summer fight Vardan Malkhasyan was beside Taron Hakobyan.
