Arman Danielyan participates in the Russian human rights activist Aleksey Sokolov’s trial as an international observer
Arman Danielyan, Chairman of Civil Society Institute, representative of International Federation for Human Rights, participates in the Russian human rights activist Aleksey Sokolov's trial as an international observer, as reported by kasparov.ru electronic periodical. Danielyan arrived in Yekaterinburg on March 1.
The newspaper has reminded that Aleksey Sokolov is the member of Public Observation Committee at Institutions of Confinement. His name and activity has become well known after shooting the Torture Factory documentary where the author, a human rights activist, raises an alarm about violations at the Yekaterinburg Penal Colony No.2. Besides it was thanks to Sokolov's efficient actions that the case of murder of 4 convicts at the Kopeysk Colony No. 1 was disclosed.
Sokolov was arrested in 2009 and is charged for brigandish assault that took place in Bogdanovich in 2004. The charges are based on the testimony of a convict that has been sentenced for theft several times.
Amnesty International applied to the Sverdlovsk Region prosecutor calling for a fair trial.
