NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATION
Violence has been exerted not only against Vahan

The Police Chief Alik Sargsyan, who had disseminated wrong information about Vahan Khalafyan's murder, should have already had resigned. During the press conference held on May 6 the head of Helsinki Citizens Assembly Vanadzor office Artur Sakunts announced.
"You can't commit a suicide twice hitting yourself with a knife. Let them invite their experts, counselors; a person cannot stab himself with a knife more than once." The Police Chief announced that he'll punish everybody, who's guilty, though until now the second police officer named Garik is in freedom and in service. Tonoyan is also in service. They can also exert pressure on the detainees and their family.
"Sargis Hatspanyan is imprisoned for "false crime reporting", then why the Police Chief isn't also accused? I repeat, he should have resigned immediately. Besides, no official has cared to even offer their condolences to Khalafyan's family" announced Sakunts.
What concerns to the circumstances of Khalafyan's death, the law enforcement bodies expressed their confusion that without report of the expert in forensic medicine, the Police Chief Alik Sargsyan and the Prosecutor General still insist, that a suicide has been committed.
Human rights activist Artur Sakunts and the director of the organization "Journalists for the sake of human rights" Zhanna Alexanyan have been in Charentsavan, talked to the detainees and one of the guys' relatives who is under arrest and currently is in Nubarashen Penitentiary Institution.
It seems like they're trying to concentrate only on Vahan Khalafyan's murder, which is, of course, very important, but this case has many aspects. "Violence has been exerted not only against Vahan, but also against the other guys, who were brought to the Police Station" emphasized the head of Helsinki Citizens Assembly, Vanadzor branch.
"These people talked overcoming their fear, seeing no other way out. It turned out, that the Police of Charentsavan had been harassing the poor, socially unsecured family. Davit's relatives told me, that the deputy of police chief Tonoyan, who's called "supervisor of the zone" by the Charentsavan people, enters their house whenever he wants, threatens them and looks for Davit. They told me that Davit used to leave the house for days, so that he didn't meet him. They even said that when Tonoyan came, Davit's little son fearfully told his mother - Mom, he came again." told us Zhanna Alexanyan.
"If something happens to Davit Gyulumyan or his relatives, either they harm themselves or refuse to give testimony then the whole responsibility will be put on the pre-investigation body"- announced Sakunts.
What concerns the Special Investigatory Service's messages, Artur Sakunts sees only one tendency - here.
The tendency is the following: the Special Investigatory Service finds out later on that two other guys - Norayr and Arayik, who I have met already, were also brought to the police station. This is very suspicious. If I have been able to come from Vanadzor, find them and talk to them, then the SIS resources are so rich, that finding and talking to them would be much easier" , says Sakunts.
Even more, their passports have been returned to them, which, as Sakunts says, is not that easy, and the guys, who could give that important evidence on the case, have already left Armenia. These are the witnesses, who told that in the police department they had heard Vahan's voice who was being beaten in the next room.
Sakunts says that SIS should have found out why the above mentioned people were kept in the police station for 12-15 hours. Sakunts saw Norayr in bed, barely speaking. They both had undergone violence in the police station. By the way, Arayik had been kept there for 12 and Norayr for 15 hours. For the exerted violence a case wasn't brought before the court.
The human rights activist informed that on the 13th of April 2 out of 5 suspects of the robbery brought to Charentsavan Police Station; Norayr Chilyan and Arayik Arakelyan, have been released and are currently out of the country. The other 3 are under detention.

P.S. The same day SIS disseminated information that "Taking into consideration the interest of the society we inform, that during the interrogations the relatives have denied A. Sakunts's announcements about the violations."
