The trial of a human rights activist was again postponed

Criminal case against victims Vahe Badalyan and Ashot Sargsyan of Arshaluys Hakobyan's case was terminated in the Special Investigatory Service. Today Prosecutor Hunan Babayan announced about it in the court of first instance of Kentron and Norq-Marash administrative regions and asked the court to give him one week for examining documents. By the way criminal case was terminated in December 28 and the Prosecutor had about one month to look through them.
The trial of human rights activist Arshaluys Hakobyan, an observer from Helsinki Association gets postponed for the third time. A criminal case against him was brought forward in November 28, 2009. Arshaluys Hakobyan is accused of "exerting violence towards the representative of the government" (Criminal Code 316, part 1). The accusation was brought forward only based on the testimonies of four policemen.
"Only my word is nothing against the testimonies of four policemen, said Arshaluys Hakobyan, How could I beat myself, at the same time swearing, and crying, am I an idiot so that to harm my back, and hit my head on the hook of the car?".
According to the materials of the case the policemen visited Hakobyan's house on June 5 to give him a notice from the Special Investigatory Service, but the latter was drunk, was swearing, and signed on the wrong place, did not obey the orders of the policemen, then started to beat them. As a result he was taken to the police being accompanied by two employees of Kentron police who came "to help".
The prosecution had to come up with the accusatory speech yet on October 16. But he refused and asked for one more month, as new evidence was needed for the case.
The next court session was scheduled on February 5, 10:00 o'clock.
