Weekly review, April 6-12
During the whole week interesting and absorbing events and developments were following each other.
On the first day of the week, Monday, US President Barack Obama while speaking about 1915 genocide of Armenians said that he hadn’t changed his mind concerning this issue and during the pre-election period he had given qualification of genocide.
At the same time Obama said that the attention should be focused not on him but on the opinions of Armenians and Turks.
On the same day RA National Assembly that had allowed to detain the deputies Myasnik Malkhasyan, Sasun Mikayelyan, Hakob Hakobyan, didn’t adopt a decision to annul permission of the detention. The deputies and president of the National Assembly Hovik Abrahamyan announced that they are not allowed to interfere proceedings of the court.
The same evening an armed clash happened in Artashat, where according to a number of people Hovik Abrahamyan’s and his brother’s children participated. Hovik Abrahamyan denied this news but even after the refusal, trustworthy information was released that his son and his brother’s son had participated in the armed clash.
Criminal trials against Gagik Shamshyan and Gohar Veziryan continued. They were charged for treating the court with non-respectful attitude
After the events of March 1 French citizen Sargis Hatspanyan was charged for false treachery and convicted to 3.5 years of imprisonment.
Last month information was disseminated that independent Committee granting release on parole, remitting the punishment of the unexecuted part of the sentence has voted for releasing reporter of “Jamanak Yerevan” newspaper, Arman Babajanyan on parole but quite the contrary was written in the decision. “Heritage” party offered to dissolve this committee and apply to the court concerning these issues immediately. The RA Ministry of Justice opposed this offer.
The police used force against the common participants of political walk in the Northern Avenue for two days, some of them were taken to the police station then they were released.
In Valencia, Spain the implementation process of 1609, 1620, 1643 Resolutions on Armenia was discussed by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe at a closed door session. After participating in the session Raffy Hovhannisyan, the head of the “Heritage” Party announced that Armenia and Council of Europe are playing hide and seek.
At the end of the week Serj Sargsyan gave a wide interview to the professor of the Geothe University of Frankfurt, Mein, Germany, researcher on the biographies of political officials, Tilman Alertin.
