The Investigation of Gulyan’s case will be restarted

Today the Court of Yerevan Kentron and Nork Marash which was chaired by the judge Gagik Avetiqyan satisfied the complaint of Hrayr Ghukasyan and Aram Karakhanyan, assignees of Levon Gulyan who died in the police custody on May 12, 2007. This means that the Special investigation service will restart the investigation of the criminal case which was initiated on Levon Gulyan’s death.

To remind, Levon Gulyan was invited to the police to give testimony on the Stepan Vardanyan murder case, committed on May 9 near Gulyan’s restaurant. Levon Gulyan was taken to the Shengavit district Police station, and then he was taken to the RA Police headquarters where he died. According to the Police, while escape attempt Levon fell down from the second floor and died. His relatives believe that he was tortured by the Police.

Levon Gulyan's assignee Hrayr Ghukasyan today stated that the court decision is a positive step however not yet enough to obtain a result: “This is a new beginning and we should do our best to put the investigation in a proper direction. I hope that the Prosecutor’s Office and investigative bodies will adequately perceive this decision.”, Hrayr Ghukasyan said.
