Seminar-Discussion in Gyumri

Civil Society Institute in cooperation with Penal Reform International and by
financial support of British Government has started a program “Campaign on
signing and ratification of the Optional Protocol to UN Convention against
Torture”.
On December 22, 2005 within the frames of the program, in Gyumri, at the Shirak
Regional Branch of the A.D.Sakharov Human Rights Protection Center was held a
seminar-discussion. Representatives of local NGOs, lawyers, prosecutor of Shirak
marz, representatives of the “Gyumri” criminal-executive institution.

Regarding extermination of the last remained khachkars (cross-stones) in the
region of Old Jugha in Nakhichevan, where around a hundred of Azerbaijani
soldiers armed with hammers, spades and heavy machines began the destruction of
the unique medieval Armenian khachkars, tombs and monuments remained in that
part of historical Armenia...
