Joint NGO statement on the Beslan Hostage Tragedy
"This abhorrent and calculated action by an armed group on a school displays
a callous disregard for civilian life"

A coalition of Russian and international human rights organizations united to
condemn in the strongest terms the taking hostage and killing of hundreds of
children, parents and teachers by a group of armed men and women in a school in
the city of Beslan, North Ossetia in the North Caucasus region of Russia.

NATO Cancels Azerbaijan Drills After Baku Keeps Out Armenians

In a move hailed by Armenia, NATO announced on Monday a last-minute cancellation
of multinational military exercises in Azerbaijan in response to Baku’s refusal
to allow Armenian servicemen to participate in them.
The decision, taken by the supreme commander of allied forces in Europe, U.S.
General James Jones, came after five officers of the Armenian Armed Forces were
denied entry visas by the Azerbaijani embassy in the Georgian capital Tbilisi.

Hamlet Matevosian and Garnik Chakhmakhchian Detained When Accepting Bribe

As a result of investigation measures of the employees of the National Security
Service of Armenia, on Sept 7 Judge of the first instance of the town of Dilijan
of Tavoush region Hamlet Matevosian and Assistant of the prosecutor of Gugark
garrison of the Military prosecutor's office of Armenia Garnik Chakhmakhchian
were detained when accepting bribe.
ARMINFO was informed in the press office of the national Security Service of
Armenia, during the detention Hamlet Matevosian and Garnik Chakhmakhchian tried
to share $800, which they had received for protecting the defendant accused of
theft.
