Hotline and 30 legal assistance ambulances in the course of elections

On the eve of the Parliamentary elections, Civil Society Institute NGO has launched the Legal Initiative "Elections-2012" to render the protection of citizens' rights in the course of election process.
With the aim of identifying violations of the electoral rights and providing free legal assistance a 080-080-804 hotline is functioning.
On the Election Day, May 6, the legal assistance ambulances each manned by reporter, observer and lawyer will follow up the calls. Based on the calls received on the hotline, the ambulances will be sent to the spots to provide legal consultation and assistance.
Civil Society Institute has been carrying out the legal initiative during elections since 2007 parliamentary elections in cooperation with a group of NGOs.
In the course of Presidential Elections of 2008, 080 080 804 hotline received almost 700 calls. 475 out of these calls were received on the Election Day. 70 calls sought on-the-spot legal assistance and the legal assistance ambulances were sent accordingly. The remaining calls involved legal consultations over the phone.
"As our experience shows, at numerous polling stations, potential violations were often suppressed by the mere fact of the presence of the ambulance cars'", says Arman Danielyan, President of Civil Society Institute NGO
As previously, Civil Society Institute will closely cooperate with media outlets in the frames of the Legal Initiative "Elections 2012".
Legal Initiative "Elections 2012" will include more than 90 reporters, lawyers and observers. 30 legal assistance ambulances will be operating: 7 in Yerevan and remaining 23 throughout the regions of Armenia.
"Elections 2012" Legal Initiative does not join any political power, does not have political preferences and is ready to provide its support on the equal basis to all citizens of Armenia and all political power in impartial, politically neutral and qualified manner.
