Car march in Yerevan

The "Heritage" Party demands the postponement of signing agreements with APPA insurance company for at least a year.

Today held car marches against the terms and conditions and periods for mandatory insurance established by the law "On mandatory insurance emanating from the use of means of transportation" in Yerevan, Gyumri, Vanadzor and Armavir.

With tricolor flags and signs on cars, the march of cars started from the square near Hrazdan stadium and ended near the government building.

The participants of the march will present a claim to the government:

The drivers participating in the car march don't believe that the entire sum will be compensated in case of an accident. Let us mention that to this day, only 20% of cars have been insured and this, according to MP Armen Martirosyan, means that drivers will have to pay a fine after January. Armen Martirosyan still doesn't have car insurance, but despite the complaints, he will do so soon.

On Thursday, the participants of the "Against APPA" car march will gather near the government building to receive a response to their letter. The response will determine their future actions.

We present the claim in its entirety:

CIVIL CLAIM

On postponing the exploitation of the law on APPA and making changes in it

Supporting the gradual introduction of an insurance system for means of transportation, we the citizens of the Republic of Armenia consider certain provisions stated in the law "On mandatory insurance emanating from the use of means of transportation" adopted on 5 May 2010 as inacceptable.

The RA Government and the National Assembly were obliged to take the current economic crisis in the country and the critical social state of most citizens into account when initiating and adopting this law.

We demand the following changes to be made in the law on APP:

1. postpone the enforcement of the law from 1 January 2011 for a year
2. reduce the groundless high prices of agreements established by the Central Bank; raise the size of maximum amounts for compensation of damages as a result of accidents by ensuring the reasonable relativity with insurance prices.
3. modify the order of licensing of insurance companies and ensure the transparency of the licensing process.
4. remove the limit on the low threshold of prices by creating a field of free competition for insurance companies.
5. with the purpose of implementing the above mentioned and other changes in the law, we demand that the government convene a special NA session by December 31, 2010.

We ask to receive a response to this claim within two days.
