Tigran Sargsyan appointed prime minister of Armenia
By Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan's decree, Tigran Sargsyan has been appointed prime minister of Armenia, the presidential press-service told ArmInfo.
According to the curriculum vitae sent to ArmInfo by the presidential press-service, Tigran Sargsyan was born in Kirovakan (Vanadzor) on April 29, 1960. In 1967-1977 he studied at school No 8 after Pushkin in Yerevan, in 1977-1978 - in technical school No 14 in Yerevan. In 1978-1980 he was a student at the Yerevan Institute of National Economy, department of planning and economy, in 1980-1983 - at the Leningrad Financial Economic Institute after N.Voznesensky which he graduated from with a diploma with honor. In 1983-1987 Sargsyan was a post-graduate at the same institute, he defended a thesis on the topic "Planning of socio-economic development of the region by the example of Armenia" and received a degree of a Candidate of Science. In 1994 he studied at the International Law Institute in Washington, in 1996- 1997 - at the Economic Development Institute in Washington. On December 2, 2005, he was conferred a title of the honorable doctor of the Yerevan State University of Economics.
In 1987-1990 Sargsyan was senior researcher at the Institute of Economics and Planning. In 1988-1993 he was the chairman of the Council of Young Specialists and Scientists. In 1990-1991 he coordinated seminars on economic reforms for bankers. In 1993-1994 Sargsyan taught banking at Yerevan State University and chaired the standing parliamentary committee on financial-credit and budgetary issues. In 1995-1998 he was the president of the Association of Banks of Armenia. In 1995-2008 he was the director of the Institute for Study of Transitional Society of Armenia. On Mar 3 1998 Sargsyan was
elected and on Mar 2 2005 reelected President of the Central Bank of Armenia. In 2005-2007 he chaired the Board of the Inter-State Bank. Tigran Sargsyan is married and has son and daughter. He is the author of over 20 research articles.
