Yerevan Not For All Yet
135 000 people with special needs live in Armenia at present. Half of them live in Yerevan. $2 million AMD program entitled “Yerevan- city for all” is being implemented for them, chairman of the association of the parents of children with special needs “Astghik” Levon Nersisyan said today.
The program provides for discussions and unification of the interested organizations, implementation of mechanisms and laws of the town-planning and social protection of people with limited physical capabilities.
The outcomes of the program will be summed up in February 2006. To note, in 2000 “Astghik” association repaired 14 streets of Kentron community, which were changed in 2005.
Reconstruction of 20 schools with the creation of all the necessary conditions for the children with special needs. Levon Nersisyan stressed the importance of creating the conditions not only in buildings and in transport as well. He also said that sound alerts should be used with traffic lights, what is essential for blind people.
