NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATION
Armenian Apostolic Church Opposed Sects Registration
Armenian Apostolic Church leader Garegin II came up with a statement Wednesday voicing disapproval over Jehovah Witnesses sect recent registration.
Armenian Apostolic Church recognizes freedom of worship, the statement says. At the same time, the Church finds it unacceptable that “the registered religious organizations hunting people’s souls are constantly infringing this freedom”.
The Church expresses concern about the fact that the organizations are being given state registration because of insufficient study and lack of respect for the law.
The sects’ activity contradicts national and state interests, the statement says.
Garegin II is also pointing out that Jehovah Witnesses sect was registered as Christian while it has absolutely no connection with Christianity not recognized by Orthodox Christian Church and World Churches Council.
It is remarkable that, posing as Christianity-linked organization, the sect is seeking recognition in Christian, not Muslim countries, the statement notes.
Armenian Apostolic Church fears such a situation may pose the threat to public spiritual health and jeopardize the nation’s moral values, especially when the country faces innumerous economic and social difficulties.
“Armenian Apostolic Holy Church devoted to its mission and acknowledging its duty toward its sons is firmly determined to protect its congregation from any encroachment upon its integrity and security”, the statement says.
The Supreme Council expects that proper state bodies will think over the matter and settle it.
The Church finds it necessary to reconsider proper law and amend it to put an end to anarchy.
The Church called on people “to remain faithful to our ancestors’ legacy”.
