DETAIL DESCRIPTION: The British Council and the John Smith Memorial
Trust are inviting qualified individuals to participate in the John Smith
Fellowship Programme 2007. The John Smith Fellowship Programme is a partnership
between the John Smith Memorial Trust, the British Council and the UK Department
for Constitutional Affairs.
The Fellowships aim to strengthen and deepen democratic awareness and good
governance through a study programme in the UK and placements that show the
workings of democratic organisations within a democratic society. The “ideal”
candidate will be aged 25-35, working in politics, local administration or civil
society, with a track record of concern for good governance and promoting
democratic values. The Programme will last for 5 weeks starting early in June
2007 (the precise dates will be given later this year on the related websites).
The Programme covers the following broad subject areas:
- Representative government in a democracy;
- Citizenship, law and rights;
- Civil society and the popular voice;
- Public accountability in government, business and public life;
- International institutions and relations.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Be born after 1 September 1972 (preference will be given to applicants who are
25-35 years old);
- Be citizen of Armenia;
- At least 2 years of experience in politics, local administration or civil
society, with a track record of concern for good governance and promoting
democratic values;
- Be high flying and influential young leaders able to make a substantial impact
on the future development of the country;
- Good written and spoken English language skills;
- Basic IT skills and ability to communicate by e-mail.
APPLICATION PROCEDURES: Applications must be submitted to the British
Council office in digital form (Application Form is attached below), along with
a signed, original copy and passport sized photograph.
Two references (not more than six months old) and certified photocopies of
academic certificates must be submitted with the application.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: 07 November 2006, 18:00. Late or incomplete
applications will not be accepted.
ADDITIONAL NOTES: Application forms will be reviewed and shortlist
will be drawn up by 1 January 2007. Short-listed candidates will be invited for
interview in mid January 2007. Successful candidates may be asked to sit the
IELTS exam in January 2007. Final selection of candidates will be concluded by
mid February 2007.
