Methodological Training on “Sociology of Gender”
CRRC-Armenia invites you to a methodological training on October 12-14, 2005, on
“Sociology of Gender”
The training will be conducted by Dr. Rose Weitz (USA)
Dr. Rose Weitz (rose.weitz@asu.edu ) holds PhD in Sociology from Yale University.
Currently she is a professor of Women’s Studies and Sociology at Arizona State
University (USA). Her research and teaching center on women, health, and the
body. As a sociologist, she is particularly interested in the interrelationship
between power, on the one hand, and stigma, identity, health or illness, and
health care, on the other. Her most recent book is Rapunzel’s Daughters: What
Women’s Hair Tells Us About Women’s Lives (published by Farrar, Straus and
Giroux, 2004). She is also the editor of The Politics of Women’s Bodies:
Appearance, Sexuality, and Behavior (Oxford University Press, 1998).
The training will focus on the following subjects:
- How ideas about gender are socially constructed
- How those ideas are perpetuated through socialization
- How gender issues are analyzed methodologically
The training will be conducted in English.
