No appeal has been submitted to the Court of Cassation

The member of "Jehovah's Witnesses" religious organization Andranik Makvetsyan, who was sentenced to six months imprisonment, did not submit an appeal with the Court of Cassation. His attorney Arthur Martirosyan mentioned that his client did not express a wish to appeal against the court verdict, taking into account the fact that he was sentenced to a short term imprisonment.
The priest of the Holy Trinity Church Ter Yesayi Artak Artenyan also did not submit an appeal with the Court of Cassation. His attorney Varduhi Elbakyan, said that they find applying to the Cassation court inexpedient taking into consideration the refusal of the Court of Appeal.
To remind, the member of "Jehovah' Witnesses" religious organization Andranik Makvetsyan was accused of starting an quarrel with Priest Ter Yesai Artak Artenyan on May 15, in the vicinity of the Holy Trinity Church which is situated in Southwest Quarter of Yerevan, hitting the right hand of the priest and threatening to "bite his throat".
On November 28, the court found Andranik Makvetsyan guilty under the Article 143.1 (Breach of citizens' legal equality) of Civil Code and sentenced him to six months imprisonment. Both sides brought an appeal of cassation, however by 16.01.2012 decision the Court of Appeal left the judgment of the First Instance Court unchanged.
