Justice Minister David Harutiunian outlined on Tuesday an impending reform of
Armenia’s judicial and law-enforcement systems which he said is aimed at making
them more independent and less corrupt.

Harutiunian presented a package of relevant legislative amendments that have
been drafted by an ad hoc working group headed by him. The group was tasked by
the government with proposing changes stemming from the recent reform of the

Sarkisian Vows ‘Best’ Election In Armenia’s History

Defense Minister Serzh Sarkisian said next year’s parliamentary elections will
be the “best” in Armenia’s history as he officially became the number two figure
in the governing Republican Party (HHK) at the weekend.

“I think that 2007 will see the best elections that have ever been held in the
republic’s territory,” Sarkisian said. Asked by a reporter to explain reasons
for his optimism, he replied: “Because I will strive for that, because all the
prerequisites are in place.”...

Forced Refugees: Armenia offers haven to Lebanese Diaspora

Armenian authorities are taking measures to alleviate the consequences of the
Middle East violence for Armenian citizens caught amidst the war that broke out
between Lebanon and Israel last week.

Armenia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Gegham Gharibjanyan announced on Tuesday that
160 citizens of Armenia had already been transported from Lebanon to Syria and
then flown to Yerevan...
