The Day of Parliamentary Elections

Today is the day preceding
elections. The electoral Code forbids any campaign on the voting day and the
day following it.

The violations continued on
the day preceding voting as during the whole campaign. The violations were
numerous during the campaign, the most evident were the carrying  weapon during the campaigning, use of state
means for the campaign purpose etc.

One of today’s violations is
the posters with the candidates’ photos posted everywhere as well as the
candidates’ advertisements continuing in “Facebook” social network.

2.484.003 voters are
registered in the RA voter registration as of 5 May, 2012.

During this election, an
electronic voting will be carried out for the first time. The 238 voters,
diplomats and personnel of the RA diplomatic and consular missions and members
of the families living with them abroad will take part in the elections by
electronic voting.

Eight political parties- the
Republican Party of Armenia, Armenian Revolutionary Federation, Communist Party
of Armenia, Democratic Party of Armenia, Prosperous Armenia, The Rule of Law,
United Armenians, Heritage- and one union –the Armenian National Congress struggle
to ensure their presence in the National Assembly.

137 candidates are nominated
by majoritarian electoral system in 41 constituencies.  In every constituency, there are from 2 to 6 majoritarian
candidates. Only in two constituencies N28 and N35 the only majoritarian candidates
are Gagik Tsarukyan and Samvel Balasanyan.

The elections will be
observed by more than 32000 observers, of whom 647 –are international and 31451-
local observers.

In the frames of Legal
Initiative “Elections 2012” 080-080-804 hot line will function tomorrow and 30
legal assistance ambulances, every one of which includes a lawyer, observer and
journalist will go round and monitor polling stations.

 The legal assistance ambulances will go round in
Yerevan and nearby cities, in Hrazdan, Ararat, Aparan, Ijevan, Martuni, Gavar,
Vanadzor, Gyumri, Yeghegnadzor, Goris and Kapan.
