On June 25-28 delegation of the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) will arrive in Yerevan. The delegation is comprised of the President of the FIDH Ms. Souhayr Belhassen, Executive Director Mr. Antoine Bernard, Communication Director Mrs. Isabelle Chebat, as well as Eastern Europe, and Central Asia Desk Director Mrs. Alexandra Koulaeva.

The Observatory for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders, a joint programme of the World Organisation Against Torture (OMCT) and the International Federation of Human Rights (FIDH), along with the Civil Society Institute, the Helsinki Citizens' Assembly Vanadzor Office, the Helsinki Committee of Armenia, the Collaboration for Democracy Centre, Transparency International the Anti-Corruption Centre and the Foundation Against Violation of Law, express their deep concern about the ill-treatments against human rights defender Arshaluys Hakobyan while arbitrarily detained since June 5, 2009.
On May 15 Civil Society Institute organized a presentation of an animation movie “Nature’s demands”, made by Armenian children and two volunteers from Lithuania and France.
Our organizations remind the state that it has the obligation to conduct a full, independent and impartial investigation, to ascertain the facts and, if relevant, to bring those responsible to justice.
Paris – Tbilisi – Erevan, May 7, 2009 - Our organisations express their concern on the case of Mr. Vahagn Chakhalyan, sentenced to a 10-year prison term at the conclusion of a trial marred by irregularities, and who was subsequently brutally beaten in prison in Tbilisi.
